Tyson Jones moves up all-time list with big mark at Tucson Elite

Tyson Jones of Desert Edge improved his Arizona state record in the shot put to a national-leading 71 feet, 8.75 inches (21.86m) with a fourth-round effort Thursday at the Tucson Elite Classic.

Jones, the Arizona Division 2 champion and national leader, earlier this year broke a 60-year-old state record held by NSAF National High School Track and Field Hall of Famer Dallas Long.

Thursday's result is Jones' third competition this year over 70 feet and helped him elevate to the No. 15 all-time prep performer.
